Upon arrival at the Emergency Ward

When you check in at the Emergency Ward, you will first be examined and treated by a Triage Physician and Nurse. They will assess the seriousness of your condition.
The results of this examination will determine your emergency category (this is called ‘Triage’).
Our main preoccupation is to provide emergency care to those patients suffering from an acute life-threatening condition. These cases will therefore be treated as a matter of priority.
Please be assured that we will do our outmost to reduce waiting times for everyone to a minimum.

Who will examine you?

Following Triage, you will be looked after by an experienced Emergency Ward team, who will initiate treatment and, if necessary, call on the additional opinion of other specialist doctors.
Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel is a teaching institution and, as such, works closely with the Faculty for Medicine and Pharmacy, the Erasmus Academy of Nursing and other faculties. Medical or Nursing students may therefore be involved with testing and/or treatments, naturally at all times under the close supervision of our physicians.

Registration and formalities

Both you and the hospital benefit from proper administration. We therefore require the following information for registration:

  • your ID card,
  • your SIS card (social security card),
  • your telephone or mobile phone number,
  • your GP's name.

Tests, results, quality assurance

You may be required to undergo some additional tests after your physical examination. These may take some time and prolong your stay at our Department. Moreover, not all results will be immediately available.
It is therefore essential that your GP follows up on your Emergency consultation. Our quality team will contact your family doctor.
