What do we do?

Psychiatry focuses on research, diagnosis and treatment for mental and psychosomatic diseases. UZ Brussel’s Psychiatry Department is geared towards adults. Children suffering from mental and psychosomatic diseases are welcome at the Children’s Hospital. Psychiatrists en Psychologists, Psychiatric and General Nurses, a Welfare Nurse and a Leisure Pedagogue, among others, are active in the Department. Together they offer an integrated set of diagnosis, treatment and care:

  • in the Psychiatric Ward of the General Hospital, which admits patients with mental problems,
  • in the Psychiatric consultation,
  • in other Departments, when the consulting physician requests the advice of a Psychiatrist or a Psychologist (the so-called Liaison Psychiatry and Psychology).
