History
One of the pioneers in the 1970s was Professor Potvliege. Though now in his eighties, he still regularly visits the Department. He is still considered an authority in the field of Radiology.
From 1984 to 2004 the Department was managed by Professor Osteaux. He built it up to become one of the largest in Flanders and the third-largest in Belgium. Following his untimely death, he left behind one of the best-developed Radiology services. In 1987, UZ Brussel became one of the first institutions in the world to use an image archiving system. UZ Brussel was also a pioneer in the field of digital reporting. Now, almost twenty years later, hi-tech digital imaging has become a reality. Without having to perform surgery, ever clearer images of various disorders and their impact on the body can be secured.
