Future
The main quest of scientists in the previous century was to achieve a crystal-clear image of the body without any surgical procedures. This ambition has since been achieved. However, Radiology to this day has its limitations. A huge number of images needs to be analysed, with CT scans and traditional photos use is still made of unhealthy X-Rays, an MR Scan can last more than thirty minutes. These limitations mean that not everyone can be examined at once. Yet technology continues to develop so that, over time, these obstacles should eventually be removed.
In future, scans will undoubtedly be performed much more rapidly. Computers are also being developed which will be able to analyse masses of images and then list any anomalies within minutes. The Radiologists of the future will play a vital role in the treatment of patients and will occupy an integral place within multidisciplinary physician teams. Additionally, the provision of support by qualified and experienced personnel is of the greatest importance: dedicated secretarial and technical staff, capable nurses and Medical Imaging Experts, Physicists and computer specialists.
