Security

  • Any hospital is a public place where many people come and go. This implies a risk of theft of valuables (such as identity cards, insurance papers, house keys, jewels, mobile phones and bank documents) or money. You are therefore advised against keeping such items in your room for all to see. Never leave your belongings unattended.
  • Lock your car securely and do not leave any valuable items in them
  • Should circumstances lead you to carry any valuable items, you may exceptionally hand these over to the nurse for safekeeping. Most patient rooms have a small safe in which to store your personal effects.
  • The hospital is not liable for damages caused by theft or loss.
  • Any problems should immediately be reported to the nurse, who will alert the internal security service.

UZ Brussel has adopted various measures since 1991 to increase the hospital’s security, which has led to a reduction in the number of room thefts.

  • there is a permanent presence of security staff,
  • the buildings have been compartmentalised so as to control the flow of people more effectively,
  • at night, the ‘compartments’ can only be accessed by badge wearers while some are wholly inaccessible,
  • CCTV has been installed,
  • each patient room has a little safe,
  • the hospital has promoted electronic payments,
  • regular awareness-raising campaigns are held, both within and outside the hospital,
