Types of rooms

Our hospital provides one or two-person rooms for its patients.

Unless you expressly opt for a single room, you will be admitted to a two-person room. Should your child be admitted to hospital, you will then be able to request a ‘parents-children’s’ room, which will allow you to spend the night with your child.

You will be asked to sign a ‘declaration’ at the Admissions Desk to confirm your choice, which will also inform you about any additional fees which you will be required to pay for a single room.

Should your preferred choice be unavailable upon admission, you will later be transferred as soon as this type of room becomes available.

What are your room’s features?

Each room has its own private bathroom with a wash basin and a toilet. Most rooms also come with a shower. There is a paging system in every room which allows you to call up the nurse, night and day. Every room has a radio with four broadcast channels. There is one telephone for each bed.
The use of mobile phones is authorized in your room. However, please limit their use so as to respect your co-patients’ peace. Telephone expenses will be added to your hospital bill. To obtain an external line, press 0, followed by the number you wish to call.

Room tariffs

The day price of a room is covered by your health insurance. However, the law provides for a limited direct charge to patients of 14.14 Euro (this amount is reduced to € 5.02 for children and OAPs).
This personal contribution amounts to € 41.41 for those with mandatory insurance and € 32.29 for dependent children.

Third-party payment

UZ Brussel applies the third-party payer system wherever possible. This involves the direct charging to the health insurance of its share of the fees. As a patient, you need therefore only pay your personal share (“remgeld”) and any supplements. This system can only apply when you are covered by health insurance and have provided us with your full insurance details.

Supplements for single rooms

Should you opt for a single room, then you will be charged a supplement in line with to the following tariffs:
  • admission: € 70/day
  • day admission: € 32.10/day
You will not be charged a supplement in cases where for medical or technical reasons you need to stay in a single room. Your physician will need to confirm this by signing a special form. The hospital also has ‘parents-children’s’ rooms, which allow you to spend the night with your child. There is nonetheless a minimal charge for use of sheets and any meals.

Departure / discharge

You departure will be recorded by the attending nurses. Should your (mutual) health insurance require a certificate of admission, this may be obtained from the Admissions Desk.

Medical certificates or admission reports can be obtained from your consulting physician.
