Refining procedures for PGT treatment

Refining procedures for PGT treatment

30 November 2021

In 2015 the UZ Brussel was consulted to fulfil a desire for a child with specific characteristics because of our expertise in the field of genetic testing and research. A hoped-for second child with the same genetic characteristics could help cure a first child with a genetic anomaly via a bone marrow transplant.

Although the transferred embryo showed the best prognoses for pregnancy, it unfortunately did not possess all the required genetic characteristics.

We have meanwhile been informed that the planned treatment was successfully completed and both the parents and all the children involved are healthy.

The parents have received a compensation.

In the fertility centre of our hospital, the procedures for pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) were revised and further refined.
