Acne scars
What?
Acne vulgaris, usually known as acne, is most common in teenagers and young adults although some people also suffer from it after puberty and as adults. It is caused by an inflammation of the skin around the sebaceous glands and in some cases can lead to deep scars.
How does the laser treatment work?
Acne scars often lie deep in the skin, so in many cases, surface laser treatment or peeling does not yield sufficient results.
Using the fractional CO2 laser or skin rejuvenation laser, we are able to remove microscopic fragments from the skin while sparing the surrounding area. These microscopic wounds cause the skin to contract, making it tighter and more even.
Side effects?
The laser treatment itself is not painful because we use a numbing cream that is applied in the Dermatology service one hour before the treatment.
After the laser treatment, the skin will be red and swollen with scabs. We recommend staying at home for a least one week. After one week you can use make-up again and after two weeks the skin is fully healed.
How many sessions are needed?
Three sessions at intervals of 4-6 weeks are usually sufficient. If necessary, you can schedule one or more additional sessions after one year. One session takes 30-45 minutes.
Reimbursement?
Reimbursement can be requested. The exact price depends on the size of the area to be treated. We tell you precisely how much it will cost at the consultation.
Precautionary measures?
- Avoid exposure to the sun for four weeks before and four weeks after the treatment, and wear sunscreen factor 50+.
- Do you suffer badly from cold sores? In that case, start anti-herpes medication two days before the laser treatment and continue to take it for three days afterwards.
- We recommend that you stay at home for one week after this laser treatment.
- You can use cosmetics again one week after the procedure.
