Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is a collective term for conditions in which the bundle of blood vessels and nerves in the shoulder becomes trapped.

Symptoms indicating the disease

The patient with thoracic outlet syndrome often has the following symptoms:

  • Pain radiating to the neck and back of the head
  • Tingling or numb feeling in the arm, radiating to the hand and fingers
  • Loss of power in the arm
  • Cold feeling in the arm
  • Swelling and bluish discolouration of the hand and fingers

Possible treatments

  • Physiotherapy
  • First rib section: the first rib is removed to provide more space for the blood vessels and nerves.
