Trivia

How common is it?

About 1 in 10 women have endometriosis, but it is often not immediately recognised because the symptoms vary and may resemble other conditions.

Causes of endometriosis

The cause is not yet entirely clear. It is thought that factors such as retrograde menstruation (where menstrual blood flows back into the abdominal cavity) or genetic predisposition may play a role.

What can you do yourself?

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle with enough exercise and a balanced diet.
  • Try to reduce stress
  • Monitor and write down when and what symptoms you experience. This helps your doctor to get a better idea of your personal situation.
