Egg retrieval

Through blood tests the PGT clinic monitors when ovulation can be expected. Just before this the ovaries are punctured with a fine, hollow needle and the mature eggs are collected. That is called the egg puncture, a procedure that involves one day’s hospitalisation.

Obligatory screening for hepatitis B and C, HIV and syphilis

In accordance with the Belgian law on tissue banks, screening for hepatitis B and C, HIV and syphilis must be repeated every three months. The PGT clinic must know the most recent results of the infection studies of each patient from which (reproductive) body tissue is taken (eggs, sperm, embryos) before the start of any treatment.
