Who is eligible for PGT?

Predominantly people at an increased risk of having a child with a genetic abnormality are eligible for PGT. ‘Increased risk’ can mean that they are carriers of or affected themselves by a specific genetic condition. Unfortunately not yet all genetic conditions are eligible, but many are.

It is important that the PGT Clinic has sufficient information about the condition, so that it knows where the genetic defect should be sought in the embryo’s cells. Therefore ...

  • ... the PGT Clinic asks for the original report from a centre for genetics in which the genetic defect is clearly described.
  • ... family samples are frequently also necessary and, in that case, the original genetic report of the (affected) family members.
