Skin prick tests

Skin prick tests

If allergens are suspected that enter the body via the airways, bloodstream or digestive system (such as hay fever, food allergies, allergies to medication, wasp and bee stings), the doctor can perform skin prick tests. This involves applying the allergen to be tested to the skin and pricking it with a fine needle. Any reaction appears within 15 minutes.

If you take medication against allergic reactions (antihistamines), you have to stop this one week beforehand so that the results of the skin prick tests are not affected.
