Patch tests

Patch tests

If a contact allergy is suspected, then a patch test (also known as an epicutaneous test) is indicated. A contact allergy can occur, for example, with body care products, shoes, rubber, gel nails, etc.

Procedure

For patch tests, you have to come to the hospital on three days in one week. It is important to come to the three appointments in order for the results to be correctly interpreted. You may not wash your back during this text week. You are also advised not to do sport during this period.

A patch test week goes like this:

  • On Monday: the allergens are applied to your back with plasters. Be sure to bring with you products that you think you are allergic to!
  • On Wednesday: the plasters are removed to read the tests the first time.
  • On Friday: the tests are read a second time.
