Genital warts

Genital warts (condylomata)

What?

Genital warts or condylomata are caused by Human papillomavirus (HPV) and are considered to be a sexually transmitted disease (STD). It is best to remove them using laser treatment, as these groups of warts around the penis, vagina or anus are highly contagious.

Which type of laser?

Once the skin has been anaesthetised, the genital warts are burnt off using the CO2 laser.

Additional examinations?

It is advisable to have additional tests carried out for other STDs. We will go through these with you.

Number of sessions?

The number of sessions required will be discussed with you, depending on how many genital warts you have.

As these warts are caused by Human papillomavirus, they can return. If you notice new warts, you should contact your dermatologist as soon as possible to have them removed.
