Light therapy
Light therapy can offer a solution for the following skin diseases:
- Vitiligo: an autoimmune disease which destroys pigment cells in the skin and hair
- Psoriasis: a chronic skin disease characterised by red patches covered with white flakes
- Eczema or dermatitis: a collective name for skin diseases characterised by inflammation of the skin
- Sun allergy: an abnormal skin reaction after exposure to the sun
Cutaneous lymphomas or skin lymphomas (a symptom of lymph node cancer in the skin) can be treated using light in the initial stage.
The therapy can be applied locally on hands or feet or to the whole body. This light can have a positive effect on the cell growth and inflammations of the skin.
Types of light therapy
The treatment is given in the Dermatology service in light cabinets in which the radiation is evenly distributed for maximum effect.
There are two types of UV therapy:
